Hallstatt, Austria
A beautiful lake town set among the mountains.
After a winding road and carved out tunnels we arrived.
Then past by...no parking in town unless you have a hotel reservation.
So, we parked 2 km out and took the 2 euro shuttle into town.
They run every 5 minutes until 6pm or you can choose to walk from the lot into town.
We walked all through town taking in the mountain air, the small town charm, the beautiful colors, the people (mostly tourists by the look of it) and taking a lot of pictures for reminiscing later in life.
We decided to board the local ferry to get some good views of town.
It was a smooth ride on the lake with the captain giving commentary on what we were seeing.
There were centuries old huts and viewing platforms up the steep cliffs.
Hallstatt has a deep rooted history of salt mining which you can read about in the link above.
It has an amazing history of artifacts they dug up dating back to 5000 BC!
It turned out to be a hazy day, but the temperature was lovely with a nice breeze.
There were plenty of tourists, but not too overcrowded, which we were thankful for!
Enjoy the photos and consider visiting someday.
Possibly in winter with a hotel reservation! Stay a week and truly enjoy the beauty!
