Five months since our initial visit to Schloss Drachenburg (March 2021) we made it back!
Hiking up the first time, we learned that it is much better
to ride the Drachenfels Railway up & down the mountainside.
We bought the train tickets online and surpassed the long ticket line.
Trains ran every 15 minutes and were hop on/hop off at the middle station
at Schloss Drachenburg and at the very top station Drachenfels ruin.
Both stops had food and spectacular views!
Dale and I made a day of it. Had a delicious lunch on the terrace, toured the
well- preserved rooms of the castle, roamed the gardens and shot a ton of photos.
The cog railway to the top was quick and easy.
Though, wearing a mask makes you extra hot, so glad it was a short ride.
At the top station there is a gorgeous overlook of the Rhine river.
You can see all the way to Koln Cathedral, but it's really a tiny speck!
We took a very steep trail to the 'overlook' viewing point
which was a bit unremarkable, since the trees are growing and
will eventually cover the wonderful view of the schloss below.
Maybe they'll send in a shrub crew to fix the overlook...
Enjoy our photos below!
