North Eastern Italy and the Dolomites
(with a stop in Fellbach, Germany for tasty food and great company with The Butchers!)
Eight hour drive turned into Ten thanks to Innsbruck, Austria
Don't know why, but traffic was dreadful!
It was packed, but moving at one point.
Then we were flagged to turn around by the police
who redirected us to follow another route "to Italy"
Finally making it to the toll road south.
There's got to be a better way!
Let the fun begin!
Auronzo Lake
Magnificence Around Every Corner
Malga Maraia area
Lake Misurina
Tre Cime Lavaredo
Durrensee Lake
Cortina d'Ampezzo

Switchback roads and natural beauty beyond measure!
This was my FAVORITE day
Then around the other side we go...

Ex Segheria: Cima Mill Waterfall
Le Cascatelle / Bòsservòòle / Waterfall
Funes, Italy
Skinny, winding, scary roads at the top of the world, but not really.
Irrighe, Italy
A little down the road from Funes.
We stop for a picnic and stretch our legs.
Santuario Madonna della Salute di Irrighe
Trieste

Miramar Castle and park gardens
Trieste Piazzas
Postojna Caves
The World-Famous Natural Marvel located in Slovenia.
Home to a new species discovery, the baby dragons. Blind salamanders which live deep in the caves.
We booked a VIP tour today and got special access to the baby dragons.
(Too dark to photograph, but read about them and see pics in the link below)
Plus, a one-on-one tour guide who was also a biologist at the site.
They treated us to coffee/tea and cakes prior to the tour.
As well as a hobbit cloak to keep warm in the caves cool temperatures.
The caves have a one-of-a-kind, underground, 3.7 km, double track train which leads you to the tour start.
We had an adventurous rainy day experience!

Sappata & Cima Sappata
This rainy day we adventured through the town we were staying in.
We wandered the shops and had a 3 course meal at the Edelweiss restaurant.
We were SO full, but spent close to 3 hours eating, chatting and enjoying the rain on the dry terrasse.
Thanks for joining us.
